The main theme of the conference is <i>Enhancing Innovation Competencies<\/i> through advances in engineering education. The topical program will include keynote presentations, parallel sessions and workshops on state-of-the-art topics on Engineering Education. For authors&#8217; instructions, please see the section &#8216;Authors&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>The CDIO 2016 conference will begin on Sunday (June 12) with a Get-together event. Full conference program runs from Monday to Wednesday, and Thursday (June 16) is reserved for new CDIO collaborators&#8217; presentations, regional meetings and other workgroup sessions. An Introduction to CDIO workshop is provided to newcomers as a part of the conference program.<\/p>\n<p>The general <strong>Conference Program<\/strong> is available <a title=\"CDIO 2016 Program Chart\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/docs\/CDIO2016_Program.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>, and the detailed <strong>Topical Session Schedule<\/strong> <a title=\"CDIO 2016 Program Chart\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/docs\/CDIO2016_SessionSchedule.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>. The first opportunity to enroll to the workshops will be during the Get-together event and, thereafter, the lists are available on the main notice board next to the Front Desk.<\/p>\n<p><strong><font size=4>Keynote Speakers<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/cheong_web200x300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-100\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/cheong_web200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Cheong\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a> <a title=\"CDIO 2016 Keynote: Cheong\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/docs\/CDIO2016_Keynote_Cheong.pdf\" alt=\"Abstract, Cheong\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Mr. Benedict Cheong<\/strong><\/a> is the first CEO of Temasek Foundation of Singapore, a non-profit philanthropic organisation set up by Singapore investment company, Temasek.  Before this, he was the CEO of the National Council of Social Service of Singapore, where he served for nine years from 1998 to April 2007.  He also worked with the Singapore Government in the Singapore Police Force for fifteen years, from 1982 to January 1998, where he held various appointments at headquarters and in the operational units.  He currently serves on the Medifund Advisory Council of Singapore and on the boards of non-profit organisations Caritas Singapore Community Council and Temasek Cares of Singapore.  He has a Bachelor\u2019s degree from Oxford University, UK and a Master in Public Administration degree from the Harvard Kennedy School, USA.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/kawashima_web200x300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-100\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/kawashima_web200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Kawashima\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a> <a title=\"CDIO 2016 Keynote: Kawashima\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/docs\/CDIO2016_Keynote_Kawashima.pdf\" alt=\"Abstract, Kawashima\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Dr. Ryuta Kawashima<\/strong><\/a> is the Director of Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer, Tohoku University (Japan) from 2014. He has succeeded in developing and spreading the use of a new system to improve the cognitive function of senior citizens suffering from senile dementia as well as healthy people by top-down application of the findings of basic research involving functional brain imaging. Through industry-university cooperative Research &#038; Development, Prof. Kawashima succeeded in developing a new category of industry with the concept of \u201ctrain your brain,\u201d and created educational, publishing, IT, and entertainment industries to improve brain function. The scientific output of Dr. Kawashima includes more than 250 peer reviewed papers and 200 books.  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Rissanen_web200x300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-100\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Rissanen_web200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Rissanen\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/a> <a title=\"CDIO 2016 Keynote: Rissanen\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/docs\/CDIO2016_Keynote_Rissanen.pdf\" alt=\"Abstract, Rissanen\" target=\"_blank\"> <strong>Dr. Riitta Rissanen<\/strong><\/a> is Executive Director of The Rector`s Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences, Arene. She has a banking and finance background from 90`s after graduation as Master of Business Administration. After receiving her teacher qualification in 1995, she started as principal lecturer, later on as Head of Research and Vice-President in Savonia UAS. Riitta did her PhD in education science (Working-life based Thesis in UAS Learning Context) for Tampere University in 2013. She has had several memberships in national educational groups, e.g. Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council (FINHEEC). Riitta`s research area is professional higher education, innovations and R&#038;D, Mode2 as well as qualitative research, where from she has made presentations and publications.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/sommerville_web200x300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-100\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/sommerville_web200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Sommerville\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a> <a title=\"CDIO 2016 Keynote: Somerville\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/docs\/CDIO2016_Keynote_Somerville.pdf\" alt=\"Abstract, Somerville\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Dr. Mark Somerville<\/strong><\/a> is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Physics, and Special Advisor to the Provost at Olin College.  He joined Olin during the colleges startup phase in 2001; at Olin he has played significant roles in the design of the college\u2019s curriculum, curriculum innovation structures, hiring strategy, faculty development, and faculty reappointment and promotion procedures. Through Olin, Dr. Somerville has collaborated extensively with other institutions, including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, TU-Delft, University of Texas at El Paso, Purdue, INSPER, and others, to spread change in engineering education.  He co-founded Big Beacon with Dr. David Goldberg, and has worked with Dr. Goldberg at several institutions across the world.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/taatila_web200x300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-100\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/taatila_web200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Taatila\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a> <a title=\"CDIO 2016 Keynote: Taatila\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdio.fi\/docs\/CDIO2016_Keynote_Taatila.pdf\" alt=\"Abstract, Taatila\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Dr. Vesa Taatila<\/strong><\/a> works as the rector and president of Turku University of Applied Sciences in Turku, Finland. He is also an adjunct professor of innovation pedagogy in the University of Turku. Previously he has worked both in industry and academia, latest positions being the vice-rector of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and the principal lecturer of innovation management in Laurea University of Applied Sciences. In industry he has held executive positions in project management, HR and competence management in multinational corporations Metso Oyj and Sonera Oyj. In addition he has worked as a member of the board, investor and a mentor in several start-up companies.
